5 Things We Didn't Buy Before Baby Arrived But Needed

5 Things We Ended Up Buying After Baby Arrived.png

As a first-time mom, I listened to everyone’s advice on what we needed and didn’t need for our newborn. “You HAVE to get this. DON’T get that.” Often contradictory because every parent operates a little differently. While we had all of our basic needs met, I found that we still needed a few other things. These 5 things below are items we ended up buying within the first week of baby coming home.

Petroleum Jelly Tubes: If you are having a boy and plan on getting a circumcision, order these tubes ASAP! They used them in the hospital to help with healing and gave us a few to take home but we ended up going through the tubes so fast! Even after Reiner was done healing, we still use them on his butt as protection from butt rashes.

Car Baby Camera: Back when my little sisters where babies, I remember my parents having a mirror that would be on the back of the seat so you could check on baby in your review mirror. This camera is next level! I have it mounted on my dash and can peer at the screen quickly and safely to make sure that Reiner is doing okay. This camera was especially nice when we drove to Lincoln the weekend after he was born. Such a relief tool for a worried parent.

Changing Pad Liners: I love these, especially while on maternity leave if we got one dirty, I could quickly toss it in the laundry and put on a clean one. I often wish we had more than 3.

Play Mat: I figured we would eventually get a playmat that he could lay on but didn’t think we would need it early on. He started loving the one at grandmas as early as 3 weeks. He loves to look at the things overhead and hear the music. I wish we would have registered for one sooner!

Car Seat Cover: A car seat cover is so helpful especially when you venture out and don’t want strangers to approach your newborn. I got one that could also double as a nursing cover. I wish we would have had this from day one but we luckily found an amazing one shortly after!

Bonus: Things I Needed For Me Postpartum

Disposal Nursing Pads: I had gotten some reusable nursing pads from my registry but washing them every other day became super exhausting! I didn’t know how much I would leak. It was so much easier to get the disposable ones to throw away. Target has a 100 pack for $7.99.

Easy Snacks: During those late-night feedings or pumping sessions, you NEED quick and easy snack options. I got these Cashew Butter Chocolate Chip Bars from Target and LOVE them! Super easy and filling. Plus they are even Vegan! I also have Rice Krispies and cereal bars on hand.

Pump Bra: I had gotten many nursing bras but I didn’t have pump bras. I ended up ordering this one from Amazon shortly after getting home from the hospital. It was so much nicer to be hands-free and confident that the pump wouldn’t slip out of a temporary hold of a nursing bra.

I would highly recommend considering adding a few of these into your cart or baby registry if you are an expecting parent. Also, don’t forget to add a few extra items for your postpartum care.
